life atPossum Kingdom Lake

Clear blue water, limestone cliffs, and quiet coves, about 90 minutes west of Fort Worth. PK is where a lot of North Texans go to slow down, and plenty of them end up buying a place of their own.

My happy place

PK is where I go to recharge, and our team sells homes all around the lake, from waterfront retreats to lake-area homes with views and community access.

The big picture

why buyersLove PK

Possum Kingdom sits in a deep canyon where the Brazos River cuts through the Palo Pinto Mountains, which is why the water is famously clear. Boating, fishing, scuba diving, and hiking are the main events, and Hell's Gate, a narrow passage between towering cliffs, is the lake's best-known landmark.

Buyers come for weekend homes, future retirement spots, and short-term rentals. Some want a private dock on the water; others want a lake-view home in a gated community with a marina and amenities for less than true waterfront.

What to know

before youBuy at the Lake

Waterfront vs. lake access

True waterfront with a private dock costs the most. Water-view and community-access homes can offer a lot of the lifestyle for much less.

Docks and shoreline rules

Docks and shoreline improvements are regulated by the Brazos River Authority. We'll check permits and the condition of any existing dock.

Ownership details

Some properties around the lake were once leased lots. Most have since been sold to owners, but we'll confirm exactly what you're buying with the title company.

Water, septic, and access

Many homes use septic systems, and water may come from a well or a water supply corporation. Some roads are steep or private, so we'll look at access too.

Lake levels

Water levels rise and fall with drought and rain. Ask how a cove and dock have done in low-water years before you buy.

Short-term rentals and insurance

Check community rules if you plan to rent the home out, and get insurance quotes early. Lake homes can cost more to insure.
